Niagara Cosmetic Dentistry / Dentures / Dental Implants

Sedation dentistry is an option available at Pine Street Dental. We at Pine Street Dental understand that some patients are fearful of seeing a dentist to such a degree that it prevents them from ever getting optimal/basic dental care. Fortunately, sedation can alleviate the fear associated with dental work. Sedation is designed to relax you and make you comfortable. Sedation is designed to relax you and make you comfortable.

Patients who could benefit from sedation are:

  • Adults or children who fear all or some aspect of dentistry.
  • Adults or children who are mentally challenged and can't get dental work unless sedated.
  • Adults who have bad gag reflex.

Different types of sedation available at Pine Street Dental are as follows:

Nitrous (Laughing Gas)

This sedation technique uses nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide is provided during dental procedures to relieve dental anxiety in both children and adults. Nitrous oxide is a gas that is administered though the nose and exhaled through the mouth. Nitrous sedation helps you experience a light, airy feeling. The effect ends as soon as the mask is removed.

Oral sedation

Oral sedation is a great option for the apprehensive patient who could benefit from the effect of induced sleep and comfort under the effect of valium. This form of sedation assists in alleviating anxiety while providing conscious relaxation throughout your dental treatment.

IV sedation ("Sleep Dentistry")

IV sedation decreases your anxiety and fear. IV sedation is administered by a nurse under Dr. Lee's supervision. If you have a bad gag reflex or difficulty sitting in a dental chair for long periods, IV sedation will help you with that as well. IV sedation induces a state of deep relaxation. Because you are completely relaxed, Dr. Lee can accomplish more high-quality dentistry in less time. You will remember little to nothing of the appointment by the next day.
